Parents
The Hard Work
Behind every successful Scout Troop, is the unconditional devotion from the Scout Leaders and the willingness to volunteer from the caring Parents. Scouting activities are rewarding but they require time-commitment and they are hard work. Behind every camping, every hiking, every outing are the careful planning, coordinating, executing the countless and myriad tasks to provide a safe and fun environment for Scouts, Leaders, and Parents. It is a tall order for a large group like LDHV but HV Leaders and Volunteer Parents handle these tasks professionally and happily.
HV Parents play a crucial role in making LDHV activities successful by dedicating their time and effort to ensure everything runs smoothly. They help with coordinating activities, deconflicting event schedules, booking locations, ubering Scouts, planning meals, managing supplies, lending equipment, offering specialities, all while providing support and encouragement to our Scouts. The Parents’ hard work behind the scenes allows the kids to focus on learning new skills and having fun, creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
The Food
If you show up at a Scouting event and you don’t see a gourmet food spread, you know you’re not in Liên Đoàn Hùng Vương (LDHV). HV Parents’ spirit of eating is second to none. If they win 2nd prize, it must be because 1st prize doesn’t exist. Americans have the old saying, “the way to the man’s heart is through his stomach”. In Hùng Vương, it is that “offer great foods and the Scout Parents will come.”
At LDHV Scout outings, Parents often relish the chance to enjoy hearty meals in the great outdoors. The shared experience of planning, preparing, cooking and enjoying food together not only fills their bellies but also strengthens the sense of community and connection among Scout families.
HV Parents all followed their stomach, and it led them to Liên Đoàn Hùng Vương Kitchen. To HV Parents, food and drinks are not just life necessities. They are a celebration of volunteer devotion, friendship, and the joy of savoring life’s delicious offering. When we paired the delicious food with scouting spirit and laughter, the meal experience became many cherished memories like we have had with Trại Kết Thân, Cabin Camp, Hiking/Picnic Event, Advancement Camp, Coastguard Camp, etc. Thank you to all the head chefs, sous chefs, and kitchen helpers who have made countless delicious meals possible for all LDHV Parents to enjoy.
The Fun
Laughter is the best medicine and HV Parents definitely indulge themselves in plenty of the free drugs to keep them young at heart. It is true that anything free tastes so much better, but it is especially spot on if we combine free happiness medicine with good friends ! If we’re not laughing, the alternative is we’re crying. Life is too short for us to be sad so while Scouting with HV, Parents mission is to laugh their heart out every chance they get…
HV Parents work hard but play even harder. From dancing to Lệ Quyên’s remix while hiking, singing our hearts out during Karaoke Time, forming their own yell patrol to “compete” with the Scouts, or competing in friendly sport games, HV Parents lead by example and constantly showing the kids, while Scouting is about discipline and hardwork, it can also be fun and fulfilling.
The Bonding
HV families joined Scouts from different times and they all came from different backgrounds. Not all of HV Parents were friends before joining and not all of them have prior Scouting experience. However, LDHV offers an environment that allows Parents to form a strong bond among each other. Many of them became "partners in crime" and joined forces to form volunteer teams for HV while some Parents became long time friends outside of Scouting.
HV Parents build lasting friendship in Scout activities through shared experiences and teamwork. Whether helping each other setting up tents in the dark, preparing supplies for common area, cooking tasty meals, chowing down on the delicious food, enjoying the off note singing, or participating in Team Nước Mía, HV parents collaborate and support one another. Once Scout activities are over and freetime kicks in, HV offers a relaxed setting where Parents can chat, laugh, and enjoy the companionship of one another. One HV Parent has said in the past, hanging out with HV Parents is like spending time with their own family members but without all the dramas.
